WAYNE BEST

JWT New York
USA

Wayne Best started his creative career at one of the least creative agencies in the country: N.W. Ayer. After less then six months on the job, he learned he was going to be laid off while urinating in the men’s room. It was nowhere but uphill from there.

He is currently an ECD at JWT New York, where his accounts include Macy’s, JetBlue and Halls among others. Prior to JWT, he was the ECD at TAXI NY, where he grew the agency to four times its size in under two years. While there, he won the Molson Canadian, New York Life, Blue Shield of California and Motrin accounts. Under his leadership, the AAAA’s voted Taxi the best small agency in America two years in a row.

Before that, Wayne worked at Fallon/NY, Wieden & Kennedy, KBP, Cliff Freeman and Partners, and Ammarati & Puris. Notable accounts included Fox Sports, ESPN, Starbucks, Pepsi, Time Magazine, SoBe, Virgin Mobile, Staples, and Coca-Cola.

His work has won One Show Pencils in TV, print and radio, Cannes Lions for both traditional and non-traditional work, as well as Clios, ANDYs, Effies, ADDYs, Radio Mercurys and something called an Air Award. (Whatever that is.)

He doesn’t just tell his client’s stories in traditional advertising mediums, he’s created entirely new ones. For Time Magazine, he used the windows of vacant stores in urban areas to provoke a discussion about the struggling economy. When professional bull riding came to Madison Square Garden, he wrapped five New York Taxi cabs in bull hide. The result was over $5 million dollars in free press.

He recently created a new 30-minute animated holiday special. Based on the true story of Virginia O’Hanlon, “Yes Virginia” told the story behind the famous 1897 newspaper editorial that inspired the world to believe in Santa Claus. The show was sponsored by Macy’s and aired on CBS on December 11. It beat every show in it’s time slot except Law and Order. A Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon and a children’s book featuring the Virginia character are in the works for next Christmas.
