SP003 ADC DESIGN SPHERE NON-PROFIT

In its second year, the ADC Design Sphere honors a comprehensive and sustained program of design,* by a single design firm for a single client, that sets the standard for excellence in design communications. This award is given to design firms that convey the brand with consistent, innovative and relevant design solutions, in a single, or across a variety of media.

*The entry should express the progression of the brand through or by design for a period of 3-10 years and/or beyond. The entry must either demonstrate the story of the brand’s evolution and/or demonstrate components or facets of the brand development and its impact.

To me the ADC Design Sphere is a unique acknowledgement of the work born from an extended relationship between a design firm and its client. Those rare combinations of a loyal and enlightened client with a designer which lasts and yields great results over and over again. That body of work and team effort needs to be rewarded. For example, IBM and Paul Rand and Lou Dorfsman with CBS—two designers who unfortunately will no longer be submitting work.

We all have done work for the same client for years. Perhaps it was several different projects, perhaps it was an implementation and/or extension of a brand identity program over several years. It can be a variety of brand expressions in different media, a large packaging program, one or several promotional campaigns, a series of publications, or maybe its a place, like Mugaritz Restaurant last year, where all the components are part of an overall design idea, from menu to dishes and flatware, decor to furniture, promotion, advertising and video to uniforms, all having been designed to form a complete idea and impression. - Steff Geissbuhler, 88th ADC Design Sphere Chair
